PASADENA, Texas — San Jacinto College has been recognized by the Texas Association of School Boards with the "Stand Up for Texas Public Schools" Award for its support of the Pasadena Independent School District.

As a critical partner in the education system in our region, San Jacinto College has supported Pasadena ISD in many ways — from robust dual credit and Early College High School programs that allow students to earn their associate degree prior to high school graduation to sponsoring the Pasadena Education Foundation's annual gala and the McDonald's Invitational. The College also recently launched the Harris County Promise @ San Jac Program with three Pasadena ISD high schools to help graduating seniors from Dobie, Sam Rayburn, and South Houston high schools pay for college at San Jacinto College.

"San Jacinto College is a longtime partner with Pasadena ISD," said Dr. Brenda Hellyer, Chancellor of San Jacinto College. "We are very honored to receive this award, but we don't do these things for awards. We do them because it is what our students and community need, and it is what is going to make students successful in their higher education journey."

Pasadena ISD nominated the College for the award. The Texas Association of School Boards allows school districts to recognize outstanding businesses and community groups through its Business Recognition Program, which is an annual program started in 2014 to recognize the generous assistance provided to districts by businesses and other community organizations.

In a letter received from the Texas Association of School Boards executive director James B. Crow, it states, "On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff at TASB, I thank you and recognize you as an example in your community. Your unselfish willingness to go the extra mile for schools is an inspiring testimony to your support of students and schools."
